The Center for Interdisciplinary Research Egas Moniz ( CiiEM ) is a Research and Development Unit .The CiiEM is unique in the National Scientific and Technological System with integrated members previously belonging to other units of R & D and now gathered in CiiEM. Its interdisciplinary nature is manifested in the formation of teams typically members with doctorates in key areas with other members of the focus areas of the unit . This vectorial organisation, fundamental to applied , materializes with mixed teams with valences in Mathematics , Physics , Chemistry , Biology , Pharmacy , Medicine, Dental Medicine , Nutrition, Forensics, Sociology and Psychology.

Egas Moniz, Crl (CESEM) is a private Institution dedicated to education, innovation and research in Health and Life Sciences, certified by ISO 9001 and A3ES.

Egas Moniz has two main Institutions, Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde Egas Moniz and Escola Superior de Saúde Egas Moniz, which award Bachelor, Master and, presently, Doctoral degrees.

CESEM provides healthcare specialised services (e.g. University and Dentistry Clinics, and Senior Residence, serving over 50000 patients/year) and medically oriented research backed by fundamental scientific expertise concentrated on a research unit – Centro de investigação interdisciplinar Egas Moniz (CiiEM) – whose researchers have highly diverse backgrounds.
